Spaso-Preobrazhensky monastery

Spassky monastery played an important role in the history of Yaroslavl, for a long time remaining its spiritual, cultural and economic center. It was founded in the XII century behind the walls of the Rybleny town near the crossing of the Kotorosl river. It occupied an important angular position in the system of city fortifications. Nowadays, Yaroslavl state historical, architectural and art museum-reserve is located on the territory of the former monastery.

Monument to N. A. Nekrasov

The poet spent his childhood in the village of Greshnevo, located 20 km from Yaroslavl. Later, he owned the Karabikha estate, the only estate complex in the Yaroslavl region in the second half of the XVIII - early XIX centuries that retained its original architectural appearance, and a house in Yaroslavl on the former Dvoryanskaya street.

Monument to Yaroslav the Wise

The historical place of foundation of Yaroslavl "Strelka"

According to legend, Yaroslavl was founded on Strelka, formed by two rivers - the Volga and Kotoroslya flowing into it. Today it is a beautiful city park - a favorite place for recreation and walks of citizens and tourists. In the center of it the multi-coat of arms of Yaroslavl can be seen, created by the skillful hands of local florists. A little further begins another miracle of modern engineering - a park of singing colored fountains. Here you can spend time with family, hang out with friends, have romantic dates, play sports, cycle and rollerblade. Recently, city festivals, holidays, competitions have been held here.

Volga embankment

By the 1000th anniversary of Yaroslavl, work on strengthening and reconstruction of the embankment was completed, it has a lower level, and today the embankment in Yaroslavl is one of the most beautiful on the Volga.

Tolgsky monastery

The monastery was founded in the XIV century by Bishop Prokhor of Rostov under the Holy Prince David Feodorovich of Yaroslavl. At this place, the icon of the Blessed Virgin Mary was found and a church was built, in which the image of the Mother of God, called the "Tolgsky", was brought along the small river Tolga flowing nearby. Later, a female monastery appeared here. In the Time of Troubles, the Tolga monastery was completely ruined, but the miraculous icon survived. In 1928 the monastery was closed and completely evicted. The revival began in 1987, almost all enterprises of the Yaroslavl region and pilgrims from all over Russia participated in the restoration of the Tolgsky monastery objects.

Theater named after F. Volkov

The theater in Yaroslavl was built and rebuilt several times. The first was a barn where the merchant Polushkin kept his leather goods. There, the actor and director Fedor Grigorievich Volkov, who was only 21 years old, gave his first performance on June 29, 1750. Later, a special wooden building was built for the theater near the Volga, in 1838 - a stone building, designed by the famous Yaroslavl architect Pankov. In 1906, the City Council decided to demolish it and build a new theater building in the same place for up to 1000 people with a capacity "worthy for the city, which is the cradle of the Russian theater." In September 1911, the theater building was opened. At the opening, a welcome telegram from Konstantin Stanislavsky was read out: “... I sincerely wish that in the homeland of the founder of the Russian theater, a nice young affair would arise and flourish. Please accept my congratulations and pass on to the participants. Stanislavsky". In the same year, the theater was named after Fyodor G. Volkov, a monument to whom is located next to the theater. The architectural appearance of this building has survived to the present day and has become one of the most recognizable symbols of Yaroslavl.
