Culture
Three main cultures determined the ethnocultural identity of the Sverdlovsk region - the Finno-Ugric (Mansi, Udmurts, Mari, Mansi), Turkic (Tatars and Bashkirs) and Slavic (Russians).
Sverdlovsk region is the territory of the North Russian traditions brought by the main wave of Russian migrations from the European North of Russia, however, this territory was also developed by immigrants from Central Russian and South Russian territories. A specific Ural ethnographic group of Russians is the Russian mining population. Features of social status and economic activities became the main reason for the appearance of specific features of the traditional culture of the mining population.
Three confessional concepts are traditional for the region - Christianity, Islam and paganism. Islamic traditions are characteristic of Tatars and Bashkirs. Russians practice Orthodox Christianity. At the same time, ethnographic groups live in the Sverdlovsk region, who avoided both Christianization and Islamization and preserved the ancient religious and mythological worldview (paganism) is the Mari and the Udmurts.
Sverdlovsk Region is one of the most Old Believer regions of Russia, several Old Believer consents are still common here. An essential feature of the Old Believer traditions was a significant influence on folk forms of culture, including rituals and book traditions. Thus, the peoples of the Sverdlovsk Region created vibrant and unique complexes of traditional culture. The centuries-old culture of the peoples of the Sverdlovsk Region is an important part of the historical and cultural heritage and a resource for the further development of the territory.
