Gastronomic map of the region
Vladivostok is a cosmopolitan city, young, vibrant and unpredictable, combining the wisdom of the East and the culture of the West with a broad Russian soul. The contradictory nature of Vladivostok is reflected in local culinary traditions. There is no unambiguous and universal definition of what the Far Eastern cuisine is. It accepted and adapted dishes from China, Korea and Japan, supplemented them with recipes inherited from the native inhabitants of the region, Nanai and Udege, took the products of the sea and taiga - and the result is completely unique.
Traditional cuisine
Pyanse - one of the symbols of Vladivostok, the food of students and true patriots of their small homeland. Steamed round pie stuffed with meat and cabbage came to the Russian Far East from Korea, but quickly became a truly local dish. You may be confused by the smell or pale appearance, but if you want to feel the taste of Vladivostok, you should try pyanse and drink it with Milkis - a soda drink, also Korean.
Chinese cuisine
Cafes and restaurants of Chinese cuisine can be found in every district of the city and region. There are touristic ones, and there are those where only the locals dare to go, but something unites them all - low prices and very generous portions. When you order something in the "Chinese", look at the portion size and evaluate your strength. Usually one serving of salad can be shared between people.
The most popular dishes are pork in sweet and sour GobaZhou sauce, Harbin salad, rice with vegetables, garlic and pork, but there are many more.
Primorsky sweets
Often the guests of Primorye will want to bring a souvenir back home with them, as a gift to relatives and friends. For example, “Bird's milk” candies are a gentle, airy souffle with chocolate icing, the pride of the entire Far East, because it is here, at the Primorsky Confectioner factory, that the recipe was improved by adding agar-agar, an extract from algae.
For chocolate gourmets, you can grab a bar of dark chocolate with sea kale, sea salt, scallop, sea urchin.
For those who are interested in trying alcoholic beverages from a local manufacturer, it is worth paying attention to tinctures and liquors from the Ussuri Balsam factory. Many of them are prepared according to recipes, the age of which is more than a hundred years old, and infused on medicinal herbs and ginseng. "Ussuri balm" offers a wide selection of various tinctures for every taste: delicate "Antlers for honey", spicy "Cedar Pad" or "Captain's Rum" for the most brave.
Coffee Shops
Fashion for coffee has captured Vladivostok for a long time, every year small establishments open where you can try different types of coffee. The menu always includes espresso, americano, black with milk, cappuccino, latte with various syrups. In coffee shops you can enjoy a cup of coffee with a piece of cake or a sandwich. In the hot season, you can enjoy a cold latte with ice. Some establishments will offer you to try greentea latte - a coffee drink based on green tea.
